White Bikini - A French documentary about the 'men in grey suits' who forced former UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher to step down in 1990 is proving popular on the international market. Who Killed Maggie?, produced by Cinétévé 2009 for public broadcaster France 2, is being distributed by Zodiak Entertainment Distribution, which today confirmed that the title has sold to VRT and RTBF in Belgium, SBS in Australia, Radio Canada and ERT3 in Greece.
[SB Passion 3] Other buyers for the doc include IETV Israel, Bulgarian National TV, RTE in Ireland, NHK in Japan, TSR in Switzerland, RTP in Portugal, Rai TV in Italy and Historic Channel in Russia, the Italian-owned company added.
The film, winner of France's Fipa d'Argent award for best documentary of 2009, is from documentary maker William Karel and examines what Zodiak described as "the political assassination" of Thatcher, and it will be on the firm's slate for MipTV next month.
So will Hunting Down Paedophiles: Citizens on the Watch, another French doc that is selling well for Zodiak. Produced by Premières Lignes TV/Amip France for Canal+, it has sold to pan-Asian broadcaster All Asia Networks, VRT and RTBF in Belgium, TSR and RSI in Switzerland and DR-TV in Denmark. Further buyers include SF in Austria, RTE Ireland, TV4 Sweden, TVN Poland, TVI Portugal and Foxtel Australia.
In other news, Zodiak has licensed Millennium: The Story, a one-hour documentary about Swedish author Stieg Larsson's trilogy, to TSR Switzerland, Be TV Belgium, and Canal+ in Spain and Poland. It was produced by Impact Press for Canal+ France.
